Intraocular Implant & Refractive Society, India bestowed Prof Dr.S.Natarajan with the prestigious IIRSI Gold Medal

13th August 2011, Delhi: Dr.S. Natarajan, CMD (Aditya Jyot Eye Hospital) and also a world renowned eye surgeon received IIRSI gold medal on 13th August 2011 at Delhi which was awarded by Smt. Sheila Dikshit, Hon'ble Chief Minister of Delhi for his immense contribution in the field of Ophthalmology.  This annual conference was being organized by Dr Mahipal Singh Sachdev.

Intraocular Implant & Refractive Society, India, is registered society formed to educate the Ophthalmologists with the latest techniques in Cataract & Refractive surgeries by means of conducting conferences in all parts of the country. It is affiliated with All India Ophthalmological Society. The society has 860 life members’ ophthalmologists participating in various events throughout the year. The society has successfully conducted many Ophthalmic conferences with International and Indian ophthalmological societies.

About Dr.S.Natarajan
This third generation Ophthalmologist did his MBBS from Chennai. In 1982 he completed his post graduation in Ophthalmology from Chennai & was trained as a Vitreo Retinal Surgeon, under Dr. S. S. Badrinath, at the Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai. In 1988 he joined the Taparia Institute of Ophthalmology, Bombay Hospital. He set up vitreo retinal department at Bombay Hospital & continued working there till 1990. In year 1990, he took the decisive step of laying the foundation stone of Aditya Jyot Eye Hospital and has continued serving the institution in his capacity as Chairman & Managing Director, surgeon and guide to a large community of Vitreo Retinal Specialists. He was one of the founding members of the Vitreo Retinal Society of India (VRSI), the umbrella organization for all the vitreo retinal specialists of the country.

He is considered as one of the most proficient and high profile young surgeons involved in academics & innovations in his clinical practice and he has been honored with accolades from around the world. He is a recipient of the American Academy achievement Award, Late Shri Sandeep Wagh Award, Gusi Peace Award , Indira Gandhi Sadbhavna Award, Lion’s Eye Specialist Award & many more.

He believes in the maxim “If you rest, you will rust” & constantly strives to set new benchmarks , beating his own records. He has more than 25000 complicated vitreoretinal surgeries to his credit. He holds the record for the 1st sutureless vitrectomy in the Limca book of records. A man with a natural flair for leadership , he has served as the President Bombay Ophthalmic Association, President Maharashtra Ophthalmological Society & has trained more than 60 ophthalmologists to serve the community through his Leadership Development Program.

He has a deep sense of responsibility to the less fortunate in society & through his Aditya Jyot Foundation for Twinkling Little Eyes reaches out to the visually impaired people unable to afford treatment . Since the year 2006 more than 30,000 people have been screened for various eye diseases, more than 20,000 children screened for eye ailments, 2000 cataracts performed , all totally FREE!.
