Prof. Dr.S. Natarajan attends 10th Biennial conference of SAARC academy of ophthalmology & received SAO Retina Oration Award

10th Biennial conference of SAARC academy of ophthalmology and 38th Annual National Conference of the Ophthalmological Society of Bangladesh (OSB) is held on 05-08 March, 2011 at BCPS, Dhaka. This is the largest event for the ophthalmologists of SAARC countries to exchange views, share knowledge, gather information and skill about rapidly progressive procedures and technologies in this arena. This is also an event of greater social bondage, fellow feeling and strengthening partnership among the eye care professionals of this region.

The Ophthalmologists from countries like Bangladesh, Maldives, Pakistan, India, Srilanka, Afghanistan, Nepal will attend this conference.

From India Well renowned Vitreo Retinal Surgeon Prof. Dr.S. Natarajan will attend this conference. Prof. Dr. S. Natarajan will be bestowed with SAO Retina Oration award. His talk is on Bionic Eye – Where we stand. He will be performing Live surgery on Macular hole.

Dr. S. Natarajan is the third generation Ophthalmologist did his MBBS from Chennai. In 1982 he completed his post graduation in Ophthalmology from Chennai & was trained as a Vitreo Retinal Surgeon, under Dr. S. S. Badrinath, at the Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai. In 1988 he joined the Taparia Institute of Ophthalmology, Bombay Hospital. He set up vitreo retinal department at Bombay Hospital & continued working there till 1990. In year 1990, he took the decisive step of laying the foundation stone of Aditya Jyot Eye Hospital and has continued serving the institution in his capacity as Chairman & Managing Director, surgeon and guide to a large community of Vitreo Retinal Specialists. He was one of the founding members of the Vitreo Retinal Society of India (VRSI) the umbrella organization for all the vitreo retinal specialists of the country.

He is considered as one of the most proficient and high profile young surgeons involved in academics & innovations in his clinical practice and he has been honored with accolades from around the world. He is a recipient of the American Academy achievement Award, Late Shri Sandeep Wagh Award, Gusi Peace Award, Indira Gandhi Sadbhavna Award, Lion’s Eye Specialist Award, Dr.F.P. Antia Oration Award & many more.

He believes in the maxim “If you rest, you will rust” & constantly strives to set new benchmarks, beating his own records. He has more than 25000 complicated vitreoretinal surgeries to his credit. He holds the record for the 1st sutureless vitrectomy in the Limca book of records. A man with a natural flair for leadership, he has served as the President Bombay Ophthalmic Association, President Maharashtra Ophthalmological Society & has trained more than 60 ophthalmologists to serve the community through his Leadership Development Program.

He has a deep sense of responsibility to the less fortunate in society & through his Aditya Jyot Foundation for Twinkling Little Eyes reaches out to the visually impaired people unable to afford treatment. Since the year 2006 more than 30,000 people have been screened for various eye diseases, more than 20,000 children screened for eye ailments, 2000 cataracts performed , all totally FREE!.
